This month the Chai Boys Modiin chapter launched a special inaugural program: Chidon Hatanach. For the first event called “the written stage” teens answered a paper full of questions on the book of Shmuel Bet. There was a competitive spirit as the teens handed in there written papers and teens crowded around as the papers were scored to see who received the highest score. Teens with the highest scores will proceed to the second stage where they will face off to answer questions testing their speed and knowledge, similar to the final round of the international Chidon Hatanach each year on Yom Ha’atzmaut.
Dovid Katzin, an 11th grader from Sha’alvim High School recalled “I do not believe I have ever tried this hard on a test before and actually enjoyed it!” After receiving the news that he will be moving on to stage two of the chidon, Dovid told his madrich “please take a picture for me and my parents because I want to remember this.”
Ezra Silton, Modiin Chapter Director for NCSY Israel and Chai Boys programming, is leading this new program. Ezra commented “I am so proud of each and every one of the teens. They all showed me how much passion and devotion teenagers could have for torah, and it’s truly remarkable.”
